The paper is an attempt to show the relationships between Leopold and his wife, Molly and the evolution of these characters throughout the novel. We shall focus our study on five chapters that we consider to be capital for our topic: Calypso, The Sirens, Nausicaa, Circe and Penelope, all these episodes disclosing different instances of the woman’s sexuality and femininity and their unfolding. Homer’s Odyssey constitutes the background of our interpretation of the love and sexual relations in Joyce’s Ulysses. This intertextual dimension is meant to reveal not only the differences between the two works but also the effects produced on the reader.
