Abstract:

Load profiles provided by electronic metering devices represent a real mine of information, which can be used in a large range of applications. This paper review the basic concepts about load profiling and presents a technique for typical load profiles extraction that uses self-organization in Kohonen networks. The self-organizing approach needs no more a priori specification of the number of consumer classes to be separated, allows the separation of subclasses and typical load profiles updating procedure due to the load dynamic is greatly simplified. The paper describes the algorithm of the self-organizing technique and a case study.
