Abstract:

The spinning precision and the functional role of ball-bearings enforces upon them a good dimensional stability and good/satisfying mechanical properties during the functioning. These properties depend on the nature of the structural constituents, on their size and distribution, on their level of structural homogeneity. The substantial modifica-tions of the exploitation proprieties emerge from important modifications in the compo-sition, structure and substructure of the ball-bearing steels. These modifications have been brought into light by research in the domain of the optic microscopy and by X ra-diation difractography. The choice for the final thermal treatment is made taking into consideration the chemical composition of the steels, the characteristics imprinted to the steel by the former processing and by the final obtaining of the structural constituents – which – through quantity, size and distribution – are supposed to ensure the technical and qualitative conditions imposed to the ball bearing.
