The paper intends to analyse the interior exile existing in Alice Voinescu’s work seen as form of spiritual survival in a tormented world (the period after the Second World War and that of the communist dictatorship). The phenomenon of interior exile deals with subversive writing, an argument of such way of expressing being her Journal that covers the history of 32 years. Alice Voinescu’s work is a sign decoded at different levels of interpretation: political ideas, social involvement, cultural contribution (her radio conferences and interdisciplinary writing), literary studies and so forth. Her idea of “liberation” unfolds the entire Journal and will be the main concept to be studied in this paper, along with other aspects of interior exile. We shall be interested in the anthropological approach of the exile.
