Abstract:

The switched reluctance motor (SRM) is becoming to be widely used in the positioning systems or in speed adjusting systems in many industrial and consumer applications and there is a tendency to replace the conventional AC and DC motors. This paper introduces an attempt to use fuzzy logic to control a switched reluctance motor drive based a new controlling method. After briefly reviewing the SRM operation, this paper describes an estimating method of the load torque that proposes an additional control variable so that the energy developed by the rotor can be close as possible to the load energy. An accurate mathematical model is very difficult to obtain from SRM and the usage of this model presupposes sophisticated computations. The fuzzy logic controller is more convenient solution in this case. Simulation and laboratory results are compared and attest the expected features of the fuzzy controller like steady state torque control, robustness and losses' reduction.
