Abstract:

The reconfigurable manufacturing systems were created to make face to the frequent changes of the market and can be considered as hybrid systems that achieve a compromise between the flexible manufacturing systems and transfer lines. The reconfigurability of a manufacturing system represents the possibility to add, remove or modify the functionality, command, machine and processes structure of the system as a reply to the market requirements related to products, volume or technology. A reconfigurable manufacturing system is created by including in its structure some basic modules that can be fast and in a reliable manner rearranged or replaced. The architecture of a reconfigurable manufacturing system must be when it is needed open to be improved, reconfigured or increased and not replaced. The present paper analyses some problems concerning the reconfiguration of the manufacturing systems.
