HEMATOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL PICTURE OF THE HEALTHY RATS SUBMITTED TO THE EXPERIMENTAL CYTOSTATIC TREATMENT WITH THE FUROSTANOLIC-GLYCOSIDE EXTRACTS

COSMIN MIHAI, PINCU ROTINBERG, DANIELA GHERGHEL, DORINA IUREA, PAVEL CHINTEA, GABRIELA CĂPRARU, ELENA TRUŢĂ, HELLEN ROTINBERG

The appreciation of biocompatibility between the evolution of physiologic processes of healthy animal organism and the glycoside-furostanolic treatment was accomplished in vivo, on experimental models that are adequate to preliminary researches of pharmaco-toxicology. The moderate decrease of the total number of circulator erythrocyte – correlated as sense and amplitude, with the level of haemoglobin and hematocrit – and the low degree of leucopoenia revealed the moderated toxic impact of the biosynthesis and semi-biosynthesis extract over the hemo- and leucopoiesis organs. The record of some plasmatic hyper- or hypoproteinemia, associated with plasmatic hypo- or hyperalbuminemia and hypoglobulinemia, of some moderate hypoglycaemia, associated with hyper- or hypolactacidemia, of a minor hipolipemia, correlated with plasmatic hypercholesterolemia and with low level of concentration of free plasmatic fatty acids, suggests an interference of the biosynthesis agent or the one of semi synthesis with the tissue metabolic processes. This interaction is concretised through the modification, in normal limits and not in pathologic limits, of some plasmatic biochemical parameters. The assemble of results – through the prism of some reference criteria in the establishing of the toxicity degree of some new potential medicamentary agents – argue the moderate degree of toxicity of native glycoside-furostanolic bio-eradicators, pharmaco-dynamic active over the normal cells of animal organism and especially over the organs that are directly implicated in the maintaining of the intern medium homeostasis.

IMMOBILISATION OF EUROPEAN BISON (BISON BONASUS L., 1758) IN ROMANIA

SEBASTIAN CĂTĂNOIU, RĂZVAN DEJU

Starting with 2004 up to present, the authors have used a mixture of detomidine (known under the commercial name as Domosedan) and ketamine for immobilising 27 European bison. The animals came from captive and semi free herds from Vama Buzaului Bison Reserve, Neagra Bucsani Bison Reserve and Vanatori Neamt Bison Reserve. A combination of these 2 substances was administrated with a sedation gun Telinject model Vario 3. The animals were fully immobilised after 20 minutes from the moment they had been administered a full dose. The application of an antidote (atipamesole – known under the commercial name as Antisedan) resulted in a full recover of the animal after a time interval of 15-20 minutes. For all the reasons exposed above, this mixture was considered by the authors proper for European bison species.

STRUCTURE OF THE BENTHIC MACROINVERTEBRATES’ COMMUNITY FROM THE RESERVOIR CHIRITA – IASI, IN THE YEAR 2007

GRIGORE PĂSTOREL, MIRCEA NICOARĂ, GABRIEL PLĂVAN

The biological survey of the reservoir Chirita - Iasi was established on a three months basis. 7 sampling sites were fixed in order to offer data about the general situation of the reservoir’s benthic fauna. A series of ecologic indicators were calculated in order to characterize the biocoenosis: analytic (abundance, constancy, and dominance) and synthetic (ecological significance index). In the three months of survey a total number of 2322 specimens belonging to 16 species were found. The best represented species in the biological samples was Chironomus plumosus with 1064 specimens of larvae and a percentage of 45.82%.

After an overview of geographic features of the analysed area, in the writing we refer to: - drought phenomena in the last years; - the increase of torrential rains degree; - aspects regarding special floods to 1991, 2004, 2005 and 2006; - structural and nonstructural measures of prevention and fast intervention for the defence against floods in the Siret Hydrographic Area; - fast intervention systems for floods control; The paper deals with some aspects of risk management, which regard the prevention and the dicrease of the effects of these events.

THE ROLE AND IMPORTANCE OF HABITAT PATCHES IN CONSERVATION

CRISTINA PREDA, IONELA CHIRILĂ, MARIUS SKOLKA, DAN COGĂLNICEANU

Most of south-eastern Romania was covered in the past by steppe, but was transformed almost completely in agricultural fields. The Măcin Mountains National Park is located in the northern part of Dobroudja, in the steppic bioregion. Outside the park there are several hillocks, tens of meters in diameter, surrounded by agricultural fields but with typical steppe and woody vegetation. During 2006 and 2007 we sampled the invertebrates on three hillocks near Luncaviţa (Movilele Înşirate), to compare taxa richness and abundance with four control areas in Măcin Mountains National Park. The hillocks have a higher density and taxa richness indicating that they act as refuge for local species, facilitating their survival and dispersal. However, a preliminary analysis of fluctuating asymmetry in a hillock population of the grasshopper Chorthippus dorsatus showed high levels of asymmetry, indicating poor habitat quality. Including these hillocks in the Nature 2000 network and reducing human impact would enhance their role in conservation.

EFFECT OF LATITUDE AND ALTITUDE ON BODY SIZE IN THE COMMON FROG (RANA TEMPORARIA) POPULATIONS

RALUCA IOANA BANCILĂ, RODICA PLĂIAŞU, DAN COGĂLNICEANU

The wide domain of distribution, both altitudinal and latitudinal, of the specie Rana temporaria allows testing the Bergmann law. This law affirm that the dimensions of individs that belongs to the same specie are larger in the areas with low temperatures and high latitudes, comparing with the warmer area or at low latitudes. Thus we studied intraspecific variation of body length (Lc) and weight (G) at 15 populations of R. temporaria and we testes (i) if the media of body dimensions (Lc and G) of R. temporaria populations from The Reservation Malla, Finlanda (latitude N: 690) is meaningful higher than the populations from the National Park Retezat (PNR), Romania (latitude N: 450) and (ii) if the media of body dimensions from lower altitudes (average altitude: 1004 m) from PNR is meaningful lower than the media of body dimensions at populations from PNR from higher latitudes (average altitude: 2093m). The low of Bergmann was confirmed both latitudinal and altitudinal by the both measurements at juvenile animals. Latitudinal, the females and males, for Lc as well as for G, presents an inverse variation than the one suggested by the Bergmann low.

GABRIEL CHIRIAC, CLAUDIA PAVELESCU, OANA RISTEA, MIRELA CIMPEAN, LILIANA ROB, ZOLTAN CSATA, ROXANA NECHIFOR, OANA IHNATIW, ELENA PREDA

Joint Danube Survey 2 took place between 14 August and 29 September 2007, starting from Regensburg, Germany and ending in Tulcea, Romania. During 9-29 September 2007, the JDS 2 took place along the Romanian stretch of the Danube River. All elements proposed by the Water Framework Directive (biological, chemical and hydromorphological) and all investigation media have been studied during the survey. The macroinvertebrates communities have been studied as well, which are representative for water courses. Along the Romanian stretch, 15 stations have been sampled and analysed. All stations were on the Romanian side. The results on invertebrates communities have shown the moderate pollution of the Danube River and the complex impact of anthropogenic activities.

RECENT TAXONOMIC CHANGES IN HERPETOLOGY - IMPLICATIONS FOR THE CONSERVATION AND SYSTEMATICS OF AMPHIBIANS IN ROMANIA

DAN COGĂLNICEANU, TIBOR HARTEL

The last decades brought major changes both in the number of species and in the reappraisal of the amphibian’s systematic, world wide. This situation is due to perfecting of available tools: techniques of molecular and behavioural analysis, data processing, larger geographic cover and a larger number of researchers. The result is an explosion of publications and taxonomic reappraisal that determines instability of nomenclature and it creates a chaotic situation in legislation and conservation. These taxonomic modifications are necessary, it keeps up with our increased capacity of knowledge, but they are probably not final. This is the reason why, in order to maintain stability in the nomenclature, we recommend the acceptance of only some of the proposed nomenclature reappraisal, respectively of the most well argued.

ICHTHYOFAUNA STATUS FROM THE SUCEAVA CATCHMENT AREA FROM 2001 TO 2005

KLAUS WERNER BATTES, FERDIN, PRICOPE, DOREL URECHE, IONUT STOICA

A complex study was carried out from November 2001 to September 2005 regarding the status of native and anthropogenic fish communities from the Suceava catchment area. 21 sites were sampled in the years 2001, 2003 and 2005. This river (at least upstream the city of Suceava) is less affected by river regularization or overfishing. We recommend the transformation of this river stretch in protected area for the existing native species (trout, grayling, schneider, afterbarbe etc.).

The majority of inventoried species are South East European species.

IN VIVO ANTITUMORAL EFFECT OF SOME AUTOCHTHONOUS FUROSTANOLIC-GLYCOSIDE PRODUCTS AND ITS REPRODUCIBILITY

PINCU ROTINBERG, COSMIN MIHAI, DORINA IUREA, PAVEL CHINTE, DANIELA GHERGHEL, GABRIELA CĂPRARU, HELLEN ROTINBERG

The impact of biosynthesis and semi-synthesis agents ENLE şi D2ENLE – characterized by us in vitro as citostatici and citotoxici agents – over the carcinogen processes was investigated through successive testing in vivo of their effect over the development of limfotrop epiteliom Guérin T-8 and of carcinosarcom Walker 256. The comparative analysis of the values of evaluation indexes of antitumor activity – determined in our tests and re-tests and accomplished in the same experimental conditions with the one of reference – established by American and German preclinical screening programs, showed their compatibility. Thus, the similarity of average tumour regression of the treated samples (T) and control (C), as well as the inclusion of products T/Cx100 of re-testing between the limits of admitted variability, showed the oncochimioterapeutic effect of glycoside-furostanolici agents, natural (ENLE) and of semi-synthesis (D2ENLE), as well as their reproducibility. The qualitative evaluation of the pharmacodynamic agents ENLE and D2ENLE condition the continuation of researches, for the quantitative evaluation of their specific pharmaco-dynamic effect that will assure a pre-clinical estimation of their antitumor therapeutic efficiency.

ICHTHYOFAUNA STATUS IN THE CATCHMENT AREAS OF THE RIVERS FROM THE APUSENI MOUNTAINS NATURAL PARK

PRICOPE, IONUŢ STOICA, KLAUS WERNER BATTES, DOREL URECHE, PETROVICI MILCA

The paper presents the inventory of fish fauna from the main rivers flowing through the Apuseni Mountains Natural Park. Control fishing occasions were carried out in 22 sampling sites in five catchment areas: the Arieş, the Criş Băiţa, the Criş Pietros, the Valea Stanciului and the Someşu Cald basins. Ten fish species were identified belonging to 5 families. The species were characteristic to 3 different fish zones: the trout zone, the grayling zone and the mediterranean barbel zone. The numerical density and biomass recorded low and average values, depending on the river, altitude and sampling site. Predator species were dominant both numerically and as weight (trout and grayling) at altitudes of more than 500m, while the chub dominated the fish communities from lower altitudes.

STUDIES ON THE MICROBIOTA FROM SIRET RIVER AND IMPLICATION INTO SELF-PURIFICATION

DUMITRA RĂDUCANU, OCTĂVIŢA AILIESEI

The Siret river is one the most important river from Romania. It is characterized by a rich microflora, who participating a degradation and mineralization of the organic matter. For this study, the water samples were collected seasonally during 2008 and 2009 in the following locations: Ion Creanga aval Roman; upstream pig farm Basta village, Dragesti near the exploatation of the ballast, Siret village, Siret river area CIC (industrial zone), Siret river upstream Adjudul Vechi. We proposed to determinated the the group of: the ammonifing, the denitrifing bacteria group and the aerobic and anaerobic heterotrophic microorganisms. The analysis shows that the number of germs/ml of water sample varied at the same station from the experience date and one station to the other. These differences between stations, depending by the season and depending by the degree of the polution of the water.
