LA VERITE POLYPHONIQUE: LA MISE EN QUESTION DE LA DICHOTOMIE ENTRE FICTION ET DOCUMENTAIRE
Adina Vuković
Polyphonic truth: questioning the dichotomy between fiction and documentaryThe most common documentary definitions indicate the non-fictional character of this cinematic genre, the absence of professional actors, and the presentation of real events. In essence, there are the principles enunciated by John Grierson in 1932, in First Principles of Documentary. In practice, we find that most major documentary works demonstrate the precarious boundaries between fiction and documentation of the real. In this way, Jean-Luc Godard noted: “All great fiction films tend toward the documentary just as all great documentaries tend toward fiction”. Throughout the history of documentary cinema, filmmakers have had to recognize that, in practice, it is almost impossible to avoid the intrusion of fiction into a documentary. In this context, we wonder if the documentary's genre purity is not illusory while implying a questioning of cinema's current taxonomy.
LITERARY AND CULTURAL REPRESENTATIONS OF THE BUILDING-METAPHOR IN THE ENGLISH “CULTURE OF SENSIBILITY”
Mihaela Culea(1), Nadia-Nicoleta Morăraşu(2)
A systematic employment of metaphorical language reveals a particular type of fictional world, which, though undergoing a process of “metaphorisation” (Temmerman, 2000), is deeply rooted in the real eighteenth-century universe (Culea, 2007). This will be proven in the analysis of some metaphorical structures of the language of construction/ building (books, texts and narratives) and de-construction/ruination/un-making in the eighteenth-century English “culture of sensibility” (Brodey, 2008).
NEVER ENDING STORY: DON QUIJOTE, UN MIT TRANSMEDIAL, PRODUSUL UNEI COMUNITĂŢI DE CREATORI (CVASI)INDEPENDENŢI
Nicoleta Popa Blanariu(1), Dan Popa(2)
Never ending story: the transmedia myth of Don Quijote as the product of a weakly-connected community of multimedia artistsNotre analyse porte sur un corpus de Transmedia Storytelling (Jenkins, 2011), constitué autour du mythe littéraire (Dabezies, 1999) de Don Quichotte.
MASCA LUI BACOVIA
Liviu Chiscop
Bacovia’s maskIt was natural for the work of a creator as original as Bacovia to generate difficulties of framing in a preconceived poetic formula. Extremely modern, not only through the underground, tragic, anguishing background of his creation, but also through the syncopated effects of his poetic expression, Bacovia aroused, over a century of critical reception, divergent opinions. In his case, it was spoken, with equal justification, especially about the „fatal picture”, about the „pleasure of artificiality”, about the fact that he „organizes his disorganization”, that „in the effect of the non-lucidity that he develops there is hidden an appreciable coefficient of artistic lucidity” and „that he is a technician of the illusion of elementality” (Vl. Streinu), that „his art consists in putting feelings under brief, simplifying masks” (D. Micu), that „it is modern because it shocks” and that it is characterized by a „deliberate paroxysm of sensation” (N. Manolescu), that „disapproved prose” feeds „the prejudice of a sentimental Bacovia” (Gh. Grigurcu) etc. What is certain is that Bacovia – even in relation to the international lyrical framework – remains one of the great classics of European literature of the last century…
CONȘTIINȚA ETICĂ ȘI CIVICĂ A LUI CONSTANTIN ȚOIU
Paraschiva Butnarașu (Buciumanu)
The ethical and civic conscience of ConstantinȚoiuIn the landscape of Romanian post-war prose, ConstantinToiu’s work represents a space where the talented writer, the formidable essayist, the appreciated publicist and the valuable memoirist all meet. Even though he biologically belongs to the war generation, ConstantinȚoiu does not begin his work with those of his age, because the need to write manifested itself later, being caused by the installation of the communist regime and accumulation of remarkable experiences. Witnessing the abuses of the dictatorship, ConstantinȚoiu feels the need to be honest, to tell the truth, investing his work with an ethical function. The novels, the articles, the essays and the written memoires reveal the fate of a writer who paid attention to the history lesson taught to him by contemporaneity and a vigilant intellectual, aware of the importance of receiving and transmitting the truth.
CULISELE UNUI TITLU CAMILPETRESCIAN
Carmen-Mihaela Agrigoroaie (Zaharia)
Behind the Scenes of a Camil Petrescu’s TitleFor Camil Petrescu, a realist novelist who wanted to be authentic by transferring his own life experience and his own feelings to his character, through involuntary memory, the choice of the title could not be accidental, especially because he talks about the importance of finding a good title in an article published at the beginning of his artistic career. A title of Camil Petrescu, from a chapter in Procust's Bed – One August Afternoon – convinced us of this idea. Moreover, searching for the reasons why he chooses the word August in the wording of the title, we discovered that this month was related to crucial events in the writer's existence. In August he enlisted, received the news about Romania's entry into the First World War, lived in fear before and during the first battle and, a year later, was declared dead. The war itself, through its horrors and the physical and mental sufferings of the writer changed him profoundly. If deafness is a burden he doesn't talk about much in his works, his obsessions have been unleashed in his literary works, and some of them are fixed in the fictional universe in August. In this paper we aimed to demonstrate that August, in the writer imaginary, is correlated with the revelation of death and suffering. Coincidentally or not, August can also be related to the writer's origins, to his relationship with his mother, who, after leaving him in the care of a nurse, promised to return and take him. She communicated with the nurse by letters, but they stopped one day in August. We consider that the revelation of some truths related to the suffering and death of a character through a letter (scenario encountered in many writings of Camil Petrescu) could have had roots in the tumultuous existence of the author. Thus, the meanings of the work extend in the title, giving it documentary value.
PROZA SCURTĂ A LUI DUMITRU ȚEPENEAG: OMUL RĂTĂCIT ȘI DIVINITATEA TĂCUTĂ
Iuliana Oică
Dumitru Țepeneag’s short proseThe present paper aims to reveal that in Dumitru Țepeneag’s short prose everything is reconstructed from the perspective of a consciousness that meditates on its own transformations and on the relationship with the contemporary period reinterpreted in an artistic way. The depicted world contains enough symbols materialized in pictorialized, visualized images, dominated by a kind of transcendence. It is true that these texts in prose are a challenge for the reader able to decipher beyong the first meaning of reading. The human being goes through a process of loss of individuality in a common world, without clear contours.
