JOHAN VAN DER KEUKEN : LE DOCUMENTAIRE AMSTERDAM GLOBAL VILLAGE, IMPROVISATION ET VÉRITÉ CARTOGRAPHIQUE

Adina Vuković

Johan van der Keuken. Amsterdam Global Village, improvisation and cartographic truthDirectly linked to the issue of globalization, the information technology revolution opens up access to many cultures, languages, and technologies for people and it also promotes a variety of inter-sensory relationships. Made possible by the technical revolution, ubiquity is one of the significant characteristics of global man, who now has to face “the acceleration of history” (Augé: 1992) and “event overabundance” (ibidem). Globalization implies the emergence of a new scale and new thinking of social and spatial dynamics. Following the example of the 17th century Dutch cartographers who had placed their country at the heart of the world’s map, Johan van der Keuken chose his hometown, Amsterdam, as “the rossroads of nations, a tolerant refuge” (Van der Keuken: 1998), to film here “the absurdities and contradictions” (ibidem) of his time. This paper intends to show that Amsterdam Global Village is a “film-world” and that, by the realization of this dispositive which allows him to contemplate from home the most distant places, Van der Keuken confirms the hypothesis of Shohat and Stam (1997), according to which we could consider the cinematographic medium as the successor of cartography.

MAGIE, ÉROS, IMAGE(S) VERS 1857 : ENJEUX ET RÉVERBÉRATIONS D’UN DÉBAT CULTUREL

Ioan Pop-Curşeu

Magic, Eros, Image(S)- Wagers and Echoes of a Cultural DebateTaking as a starting point the hypotheses of Ioan Peter Couliano on Renaissance magic, this paper tries to see if they could be transferred to other cultural contexts, i.e. 19th century or contemporary world. During the 19th century, with modernity emerging and developing on a planetary scale, two divergent cultural tendencies confront: the rationalism and scientific positivism on one side, and – on the other side – various sorts of magic inspired by Plato. Two seminal works, elaborated around 1857 are analyzed: the spiritualist contribution of Allan Kardec and the magic work of Éliphas Lévi. The first one is oriented towards a conciliation of his explorations in the realm of dead with scientific imperatives, and the second one elaborates an extremely interesting magic syncretism, based on the idea of the universality of the force that eroticism emanates. The influences of the works of Kardec and Lévi on romantic and post-romantic literature, but also on cinema are mentioned and briefly analyzed in the article.

ÉCRITURE DE LA MOBILITÉ, RECONSTRUCTION DU SOI CHEZ VASSILIS ALEXAKIS

Raluca Bălăiță

Writing of Mobility, Self Reconstruction in Vassilis Alexakis’s WorkVassilis Alexakis is a kind of author who had already been French in spirit even before adopting French as his language of writing. He also had, like so many other writers before him, the traumatic experience of the change of scenery caused by exile, an experience which led him to constantly seeking his personal, social, cultural, narrative self. Vassilis Alexakis’s voyage to French language and land is not, however, definite: he has never cut his ties with his native country and has chosen a back and forth journey between Greek language and Greece and French as well as France, just to depict from the two “a kind of very personal homeland”. Located “at the crossroads of languages – à la croisée des langues“ (Lise Gauvin) and cultures, he has experienced various stages in the process of reconstruction of his creative self: deculturation, acculturation, re-enculturation, transculturation. It was the French language that brought him literary notoriety, but above all, it led to a (re)discovery and at the same time a distancing from his artistic self. Aware that the choice of a language of expression is intimately linked to the mere process of the artistic conception, Vassilis Alexakis resorts to self-translation, which is, in fact, a recreation of the text, but also an epiphany of his most intimate self. The use of self-translation, the utter need to experience and to reconnect with his mother tongue as well as the practice of a third language, Sango language, attest his refusal to settle in and settle down in one place nor a single language. This very sheer coexistence of all these languages and cultures are generating, in fact, the quintessence and the originality of his literary work.

Mihaela Chiribău-Albu

Lope de Vega's 74 sonnet – a literary mirror of his perception upon loveThe analysis of Sonnet 74, written by Lope de Vega and entitled “Daba sustento a un pajarillo”, focuses on both the structural elements of the genre (the theme, the literary motifs, poetic ideas, and figures of speech) and the connection between this poem and the poet's life. This study reveals the way reality is linked to fiction underlining the most important love affairs of the writer that represent a source of inspiration for his poems of love.

POETUL NICOLAE DABIJA ÎN CONȘTIINȚA CRITICII

Liviu Chiscop

The poet Nicolae Dabija in the consciousness of criticismIn the hereby essay we intend to do conduct not so much a research from the criticism of criticism category – as one might think at first sight –, but rather what it is called a review of some points of view expressed by some of the most erudite commentators of Nicolae Dabija’s poetic creation. The objective of selecting such critical excerpts is also to signal the fact that the elaboration of an exegesis having the complex personality of Nicolae Dabija and his valuable work of fiction as a central subject is mandatory…

NOSTALGIA INTERBELICULUI ȘI TENTAȚIA ACTUALITĂȚII ÎN PROZA LUI CONSTANTIN ȚOIU

Paraschiva Butnărașu (Buciumanu)

The nostalgia of the interbelic period and the temptation of the present in Constantin Țoiu's proseConstantin Țoiu est l’un des écrivains importants de la littérature d’après-guerre.

Cristinel Munteanu

Hermeneutical Aspects in a Novel by Valentin PopaIn this article I will draw attention to the publication of a Romanian novel written by Valentin Popa. The plot of the book is the following: a writer observes that the real persons who are used as prototypes for his literary characters go through real incidents and even die in some cases. It seems that a mysterious force comes out from literature, shaping real life. I will try to demonstrate to what extent the author – a former teacher of philosophy – takes into account (even explicitly) different «universes of discourse» when he makes his main character (a writer, too) elaborate (at least) two types of narration: a “harmful” and an “unharmful” one. Last but not least, I will indicate in the analysed text the presence of some elements currently dealt with by hermeneutics.

TOLERANȚA – DE LA VALOARE UMANĂ LA ATITUDINE PROFESIONALĂ A CADRULUI DIDACTIC

Ioana Boghian

Tolerance – from human value to teacher professional attitudeThe democratisation and globalization of modern society at the social, political, and cultural levels in recent decades has created new challenges for education systems around the world, but also the agencies involved. Ethnic-cultural and other types of diversity have spread more and more in educational and work environments from all over the world and from the Romanian space. Ensuring the right, opportunities, and equal opportunities related to education for all children, regardless of their socio-economic-cultural background, is one of the educational ideals of the modern education system, a vector of school activity in the context of diversity imposed by globalization. All agents directly or indirectly involved in the educational activities support the reforms in the field of education to ensure and promote a type of inclusive education. In this context, we need to emphasize the importance of general human values, and especially of tolerance, both in everyday life and in school life. This article is intended to be a review of approaches to the term tolerance and shaping the profile of the competent teacher from an intercultural point of view, a desirable profile in today’s educational and social context.
